as anticipated, korea has been a new ball of wax for us…we had a great time on the ferry from hakata…the day after the typhoon was beautiful! the ship was not what we expected at all…a huge luxury cruiser w/ 4 floors, karaoke rooms and pachinko machines, a restaurant and tv lounge! we were so happy to have some time to sit still and relax, we spent nearly the whole trip outside watching the sea and islands of japan go by…aahh..what a day! we met justin on the boat. he’s from the states and is living in korea teaching english. it was nice to see a face from home, & he gave us a crash course in some of the essentials for getting around. thanks justin! we landed at the ferry terminal in pusan w/ no won and no place to stay & managed to change over our yen & book a night at pusan international youth hostel within 20 mins or so…it was no small feat since we quickly realized there is far less english signage and we found far fewer english speakers…including the guy we made reservations w/ over the phone. luckily all the subway station stops are numbered in pusan, so he was able to give us station numbers instead of names. with a little help from a very nice gentleman who found us poring over our tourist map in search of the subway station, we found the station, a change machine, and tickets for our destination.
