track our trek

we decided to make a slight detour in our trip and fly to geneva to see our friend sandra. she lives in france in a village called ville, and works across the swiss border half an hour away in geneva. we spent a few days with sandra and her friends and family taking in some of the french countryside and finding out what life is like outside of paris. daryll brushed up on his french vocabulary...we're convinced with a couple of months in the country, he'd be as good as fluent! we took a walk in the countryside and picked wildflowers. sandra and salumite treated us to a decadent 5 course dinner at an auberge (small family run restaurant) in the mountains...complete with wine, and aperitifs, we needed to be rolled out of there! it was our first time trying frog legs...very tasty! we even tried escargot for the first time at sandra's parents' house! surprisingly, they were pretty yummy too! garlic and butter make just about anything taste good! we took a picnic lunch up another mountain one afternoon and watched paragliders take off and drift on the wind currents...it's amazing to see up close. it looks so easy from far away, but watching them take off from a windy mountain top makes you realize it's a very difficult and technical sport! we spent a day in annecy wandering through the market, sitting in the sun by the lake and renting a pedal boat. we celebrated sandra and virginie's birthday with a great dinner at virginie and jc's house. on our last day, we spent the morning walking around lake evian - source of the world famous mineral water - and downtown geneva. it's a very international city with businesses from all over the world and banks as far as the eye can see. we had a great time seeing sandra again after our nomad tour & we can't wait to see her again...hopefully she'll come see us in the states once we're settled somewhere.
