we spent a nice day just outside of brisbane at the lone pine koala sanctuary...it's a sprawling zoo that has lots of animals that are found all over australia, from koalas to kangaroos to poisonous snakes to cockatoos and wedge-tailed eagles. there were lots of presentations about the animals, and we got to feed the kangaroos and lorikeets! (although the kangaroos didn't seem too interested in eating the kibble daryll was offering.) it was neat to see all the koalas in their different stages of development...breeding males are housed together; females with babies are housed together...they even keep the young ones from 1-2 years of age in the "koala kindergarten!" we watched a sheepdog show and learned how different dogs herd sheep. and we saw a "birds of prey" show with cool birds like a barking owl (it says "wuf-wuf") and a wedge-tailed eagle.
The kangaroos, the crocodile, the sharks and the koalas,and...
Um! Let's just say Maya likes all the animal pics. Love you both.

Island hopping . . . I was daydreaming about where you were in the world and went to the garage to scan the map on the wall. (I hung the map there months ago and bought stick pins to "pinpoint" each of the stops on your trek. Alas, Brisbane will be the first pin prick!) Anyway, where was I? Oh . . . Island hopping . . . on the map, Australia is like a big island and there is almost a straight line between Australia and LA, a line that is uninterrupted by any land mass except Hawaii.
I wish I could have just reached out and touched you. Wow! I miss you guys sooo much.
If supplies run low don't hesitate to holler (or is it "hollar"?). We can help a little with refueling.
Love you,
Dad aka Pops

Looking at the photo with the pigeon in the background I am not 100 % convinced that DP is really in Australia. He could just be petting a big squirrel in Prospect Park.

Those are some great animal pictures! You guys should've told us that you'd be going to a zoo. We'd have sent Hayden. Like Maya, she's a big fan.
We miss you guys!
All the best
