we spent a few relaxing days in bangkok seeing a few sites at a leisurely pace, making a list of things to do when ryan gets here, doing research about other parts of the country, and organizing our visas for india. we've gotten to be pros at navigating the skytrain, subway and river boats (the boats are the cheapest and easiest way to move among tourist sites.) we're getting accustomed to the particular brand of scams here...(the tea thing in china was officially a tourist scam, along with all the "art students" offering free art exhibits and trying to raise money to take a trip to europe...we didn't fall for that one.) in thailand, beware of people meeting you outside your tourist destination & telling you the temple you've come to visit is closed, but luckily there's another just up the road & they can take you in a tuk-tuk for just 20 baht...yeah right! stick to meter taxis unless you just want the tuk-tuk experience! we're enjoying the food so much!! a welcome change from chinese steamed pork buns and noodle soup! we visited wat pho, a temple with a 47-meter golden reclining buddha statue; and we took a river boat tour to an orchid farm. the temple architecture here is beautiful...inlaid with intricate ceramic and glass mosaics.
yo... the life sounds lovely style. you know i have to keep you posted on the brethren in babylon lest you forget what's happening with us. so... me and your god daughter went to canada last week to visit the ottawa relatives. we thought we were in a dash to beat the cold. you know how black people think they can run fast. so...we went to visit mont tremblant in quebec, a huge ski resort sparesly peopled in the off season. so we go up one long ignorant flight of steps. then we get on an exposed gondola to a transfer point at the base of the mountain. then we get into an enclosed gondola that takes us up the side of this mountain for about 15 minutes. when we got to the top, you had to duck so you didn't bump your head on the bottom of the moon. it's cold - -5, -10(c) but not too bad. then we try to be explorers like yall and roll up to the top of this observation deck where the wind is howling and screaming and yelling and slapped the temperature down to nearly -40. when we were facing the wind we couldn't really breathe. a canadian fella was smiling and chilling talking about, "pretty cold, eh?" i'da hit him if i hadn't lost my motor control due to the cold. when we came down sadira was like -- daddy, that was too cold!! next time we'll follow our cultural genetic orientation and roll to st. kitts where the sun knows what to do with us. then i can say to one of the canada tourists burning up on the beach, "de sun hot nuh man?" jokes.

yo...dp, do they got barbers for brothers in asia? might be needing a little trimmy trim next time you roll up on layingdown buddha.
i just realized that layingdown buddha is ryan's buddha. when ryan used to rock those and one shows he would say, "these are for when you're just thinking about balling." that's when you pray to layingdown buddha. jokes.

DP & DD . . . just talked with Ryan about his travel plans. I am so excited I am just busting at the seams! I think he is excited too but he's playing it cool. Maybe he's a little nervous. He was planning on getting to the airport about an hour and a half before his flight. I advised him to give himself a lot more wiggle room for international travel--like 3 hours minimum. He's packed and ready to fly.
Thanks for rearranging your itinerary (always have trouble with spelling that word). Peace and love from Dad and Debbi.

Hi Darryl and Dawne,
Your trip sounds quite amazing and I'm loving the reality bites in your travel logs...wish I could have warned others of my experience in India...oh, wait...you will be heading there soon! The last time I went was in 1998 to North India and the pollution was so bad...I hear it is 10x better now. Even so, cover up your mouth when on the road, you'll see others doing it if it is too bad. Trust me...you'll thank me later. I would definitely check out some Indian clubs (and UK ones) that play Bhangra mixed music. You'll love it.
Talk to you soon,
Smita
