day two we set out for the chinese visa office and to check out central hong kong. the visa application process was pretty easy, although the woman wouldn’t go for my self-printed passport photo b/c it looked “altered”…good idea, but i should’ve taken my time w/ the photoshop…jokes! 2 days and $780hkd we’ve got visas in hand. not bad! meanwhile, we rode the incline up to victoria’s peak and watched the sunset from the mall at the top. (did i mention people in hong kong like to shop?) we found walking around central hong kong a bit tiring because there are miles of skywalks to get you across the busy streets, but when you don’t know where you’re going, you end up doing a lot of unnecessary climbing up and down steps. well worth it to avoid jaywalking, though…drivers are crazy; & we’re prone to look the wrong way for oncoming traffic, as they drive on the opposite side of the road here.
a lot like tokyo...the lights at night are overhwelming! (isn't electricity expensive here?)
we checked out the temple street night market to see if there was anything worth bargaining for. we scored two tiny locks for our day packs for $20hkd...a little ironic since we'd been about to buy some for $68hkd apiece in a travel store, but didn't because the saleswoman followed us around the store at a distance of no greater than 32 inches for 20 minutes!) she spoke no english, so when daryll asked her if she routinely follows customers around the store she just smiled and nodded yes. we were busy trying to buy anti-theft protection, not rob her store! lol!
