after a restful, though chilly, couple of days on the brazilian side of the iguazu falls, we took an overnight bus to buenos aires in argentina...a very swank bus with seats that reclined almost all the way...they served dinner, breakfast & even champagne...i can´t vouch for the cuisine, as i am patently against eating meat served on a bus unless i´m desperate. but the champagne was great & we got to watch a couple of movies in english as a bonus. morning brought to the huge main bus terminal in buenos aires, from where we navigated our way to our hostel. hostel suites obelisko turned out to be nicer than a lot of the places we´ve stayed, for which we were glad since we were booked in for a whopping 5 nights. we were both nursing a cold, so i´m afraid we didn´t take in many of buenos aires´sights...after so many big cities, we weren´t wildly impressed & opted to rest up and try to recover fully before heading to chile. we stayed in most days, ate soup and empanadas, blew through a good part of our cold medicine stash & got lots of sleep. we did take advantage of 12 hours of spanish lessons offered at the hostel though! our teacher, natalia, was terrific & we got a crash course in traveller´s basic spanish...not enough to pass any great tests, but enough to have coherent conversations about where we´re from, getting places and buying tickets, restaurants and menus...useful stuff for backpackers! it was big fun and made us both want to learn more. on our last night, we went out for a fantastic tango show and a famous argentinian steak...the first real solid food i´d eaten in a few days...yum!
